Long before skateboarding and choppers went together like PB&J, before kool shows like Born Free and Brooklyn Invitational ruled the planet, before people surfed the Internet for ideas and parts, before Harley Davidson made the metric V-Rod. When people appreciated a nasty weld on a show bike, or a rattle can paint job on a bike, roamed this man. This man was a biker, a Marine, a SHADETREE.
His bikes have graced the pages of Iron Horse, to V-Twin, to winning best rat bike at an Easyrider's show.He drag raced a famous bike called the Herniator, the name was given to the bike due to the hernia he suffered from while kicking this monster to life.

Maddog had full pit crew of misfits we top of the line sponsorship. An OBGYN, Chopper Dave, Country Time Bar, Hogger.com, and a few other shops were sponsors.

Now this drag bike wasn't your average drag bike, it was a kick starting, slap shifting, fire breathing beast. Yes for a good bit of time he owned the world record for foot clutch/hand shifting 1/4 mile. The rules read today NO foot clutch only hand clutch allowed in AHDRA.

Now lets not leave out he wasn't a responsible racer all the time he knew how to party down, from Halloween, to World parties, to Rockinghams, he was the center of the party and still is.

From crazy parties in Daytona with Fingers, to moving the outside bar at The Last Resort doing a 4 bike burnout against the bar. Those were crazy ass times.

The most ridiculous of all is when they asked him to build a chop-off bike for the Smoke Out, he took it as a joke because the biker build-offs were a big thing and a very trendy thing going on at the time, so he built one of the funniest bikes ever and on a budget. Even better was the shit we wore at that years Smoke Out, polyester pants and Hawaiian shorts.

Since married life for him he has calm down a bit, but drag racing his Belvedere and the re-invented Herniator.

Rob "Maddog" Moore has started a new chapter in his life as a dad. He will continue to drag race and ride bikes and build bikes, just with a extra set of eyes watching his every move. If you have ever met Maddog you know he has made you laugh or plug your nose one of the two.

Transmission Problems

Our friend John picked up this stock 74 Ironhead and has had a few issues with it, well he dicked around and took it to a few other shops in town, and boy did they genuinely fuck his bike up. So he brought it to us to un fuck his bike. Dave-o tore into it while I was gone and found a disaster inside of a newly rebuilt transmission supposedly.
She's gutted

Broken gears that lead to damage in the transmission case.

Can't see it well, but the case has chunks missing and some bad cracks that need welding up.

There were a few teeth missing from this gear set.

The bike is very nice, it's just a shame it has to be completely taken apart to fix, or the transmission could be cut off and adapted to a big twin transmission.

New to Harley Davidson

Sorry I haven't been posting I was in Dallas on business. I went to the Harley Davidson dealer show. Now I know what your thinking great another HD salesman trying to sell me his product is the best. Well could care less if you buy my product but Harley Davidson is the best. Look at any grassroots event, or any run, or any blogspot, of course you will see Knuckles, Pans, Shovels, and Ironheads. You will also see mixed in new bikes like 883 Irons, 1200 Nightsters, Dyna's, and Softails. Trust I encourage the radical customization some do, whether you put apes and frisco your tank or you hardtail it and jockey shift I'm all for it. These are some new thing from Harley Davidson.

The gas tank on the 72

Every metal flake job Harley does will be painted by a human not a machine and the decals are stuck on by a human too. This is a kool breakdown of the paint and layers it takes to get the look.

This is a base model of the 72. Whitewall tires, 2.2 gallon tank, solo seat, and 10 inch apes. The only that sucks is that it's another $11,000 Sportster, which doesn't appeal to a kid that's just gonna chop it.

The Slim is a new softail, it features hollywood bars, 5 gallon gas tank, bobbed rear fender, a pleated solo seat, the crazy thing is that it sits 23 inches off the ground. I met one of the guys who designed the bike his name was Casey and he was rocking a FMA shirt. You got to understand there are a few kool guys in the factory trying to make a difference that just get it but are held down by the corporate people.

This is a new paint job also metal flake for the Nightster. Just like everybody wants a AMF tank I think one day these tanks would be sought after and if they weren't fuel injected you know you would get one.

Close calls and loses of the weekend

When you strap your helmet on and put you gloves on, and jump on your bike for a ride, whether it be a casual stroll, your commute to work, or a vacation that has been planned for weeks, you take a chance. I think I can safely say that everyone that I know or that reads this blog will agree and knows what chance they are taking and are kool with that. It's the satisfaction you get of riding a back road, splitting traffic, or re-uniting with a good friend you only see when you ride. I have been told since I was a kid by my father that there are two types of riders, those that have, and those that will.
Our buddy Pat went down Saturday thanks to a family too busy worrying about their Bojangles order than Pat on his bike, he is fine tho just real sore. Good thing all that time in the military paid off as he combat rolled a bit he told me.

My good friend Tinman or Dean to some didn't have as good of luck on Sunday. I don't know all the details of his accident, I just know his family and friends surrounded him as he left this place. Tinman rock on dude

The shop has been a bit boring as of late to post anything, I have been running tap's and die's through my motor cleaning all the bead blast out, and Dave-o finished welded a bit for me. We have a few projects we need to start and alot of engine work.

We started to put Joe's motor back together but it's a fucking Ultima and they suck and don't know what gaskets are for what generation year because they screw so much up and did I mention they suck.

The Panhead motor will be going together soon, as I have all my parts to assemble.

The rest of the Panhead is spread all over, this is the part that sucks you build this awesome bike in your head then take it apart and send it to paint, powdercoat, and it's in other's hands not yours. But when it all comes back it will be bitchin I know.

Had to travel to Milwaukee this week for H-D dealer training. We got there first thing Sunday morning which gave us an entire day to see the museum. It is amazing. Made a brace for the rear seat so it doesn't flex.

Had to make a third brace for the gas tanks so they wouldn't bounce on the frame going down the road.

Well she is basically done with fabrication so I gotta pull it all apart and send it to paint and powdercoat. But that will be a few weeks due to schools for work, and a few parties, and some final welding that has to be done on a few items.

Over the New Years

Over the New Years Holiday we were all on the run, I planned a party bought beer and food, and then didn't even show up because my buddies in Kentucky called me on a drunk Friday night and called my bluff so answered the bell and went to Hilton VA, home of June Carter, and where Johnny would go to find peace and detox. I threw down up there with friends.
While I was going north my good friend Scott was coming south with 2 motors for us to rebuild this spring.

Bobbi tooled this leather for Tam and made an awesome patch for her, Bobbi deploys Sat tho so that sucks big time.

So when we finish the Panhead and Ironhead builds we got some more projects lined up, (Don't worry Potter your spot in line hasn't moved).

We began making a few brackets for the exhaust as I like to have 3 points of contact.

The exhaust is finally mounted and finished.

Now to solve my fork stop situation, I saw this design on a bike that was in the many pictures from the David Mann Show. I thought the idea was awesome.

The fork stop in place and tacked up, should have good turning radius.

With the cold temps we have had lately at night here in the down in the teens, this wall heater is the shit.

These are in no order, these are just my favorite 10 bikes that I saw in person and they just did it for me
Texas Scott's Knuckle, and he swears it's not done. I wouldn't change a thing except oil and tires.

Slim's Panhead a memory from my teenhood.

Max's Knuck was really impressive at the Brooklyn Invitational.

This symbolizes the rebirth of Shadetree Racing and the bike is sick for a drag bike.

Jeremiah from Love Cycles has built numerous bikes I like, and is the reason why I decided to build a new roller for my Pan.

Kyle didn't cut any corners and actually painted this bike. It's pretty kick ass and I know Kyle was relieved to have it done.

This Sporty was at Vander's and is sick.

Lots going on with this bike but it works great together.

That's right Steve's sporty from Moto Scum, without his springer failing him me and Dave-o wouldn't have gotten to meet a greater bunch of guys in the Peanut City Geeks, Moto Scum, and Death Science guys.

Papaw's Panhead, still to this day the paint job amazes me, but I can appreciate the work and craftsmanship in this bike cause Papaw rides this bike everywhere without a hiccup (knock on wood).

A night out with Beaky

So after work Beaky wanted to come by the shop and hang out. Well there isn't any hanging out in our shop so I put his ass to work making a bracket.The bracket so my toggle switches will be right in front of me.

I began work on my new idea for a rear seat. I wanted her to be tall and skinny like the sissy bar. Truthfully nobody will really ride back here to be honest with you. But in case they do they will have some padding.

Now I'm stuck between these two tail lights. Ace will have the answer tho.

Exhaust mounting is Exhausting

I shaved an exhaust mounting bolt to fit in the slot.

Tack welded the bracket for the exhaust. Its a bit close to the brake but pretty sure its gonna work.
